The main dishes of Icelandic cuisine are lamb, fish, milk, potatoes. Today it is also integrated with beef, pork, chicken and vegetarian foods.

During the folk traditional fests, in particular, during the Þorrablót season, menu includes items such as rotten shark’s meat (hákarl), boiled sheep’s head (svið), smoked lamb, and cooked sheep’s blood and tallow (blóðmör).

Thanks to being surrounded by the sea, Iceland enjoys a temperate maritime climate, with short fresh summers and long but mild winters. But the island is still in the Arctic Circle.

Temperatures do not fluctuate from day to night or from season to season, but unexpected precipitations may occur, even if for a while, and the wind can intensify the cold.

From June to August, you can expect average monthly temperatures of around 10 to 13 ° C. On hot days 20-25 ° C

Some tips

In winter it’s recommended to have thermal clothing. Better to dress in layers. It is essential to have a warm hat and gloves. Temperatures can change suddenly and it can rain or snow at any time.
